it seems to be that many of you have very different conceptions of what e10 should be and it is great to read the passion that exudes from the conversation and to follow your thoughts. it seems to me that your individualities should not hamper each of your goals within the collective or as individuals, nor should you obsess about the minutia of choosing a website name or if the word e10 denotes exclusivity. obviously all of your goals are larger, but it is the nature of the blog that there does not seem to be a voice of hierarchy or organization.

three of the most successful moments for this collective have been the field trip that was organized 3 years ago, the trip that many of you decided to take to marfa the following year, and the blog itself (each separated by about a year). each of those events was marked by active organization and action which i think should be the standard for the collective. if a website is a next step, a small organized group should enact it and then filter critique from the entire collective.

one topic that i do not see evolving concerns the physical location of marfa. a website, database, sustainability and discussion are all important, however i do not see how those topics relate directly to the physicality and reality of the small property on philadelphia street. this topic should be addressed in the conversation more. in a way, we were given a grant, and the grant is based upon specific stipulations. in regards to marfa, much of the tenets on which we should base our discussion should involve those of The Adobe Alliance, which are to address issues of earth building, specifically adobe, and and the concern of low cost housing. i think it is within this framework, the framework outlined by the organization who has offered us possible use of this property, that we should address marfa. i'm sure that within this framework we could develop very specific ideas or manifestations and it would be productive to focus within those constraints.

for example, and possibly as one suggestion, within these constraints, each of us could produce a work (an architectural project, photo essay, lecture, exhibition) that relates directly to specific concerns and convene in marfa to discuss with criticality these topics with interested community members, Simone and e10 (new and old), or we could meet in marfa to engage the property with specific goals of documenting, proposing through model or drawing, and acting on the property itself. perhaps the new members (perhaps members is not the right word) of the group do not know the history of how the property came to be or the history of e10, which might be enlightening. i plan on being in marfa within the next two to three months, so perhaps we could try to organize something in marfa.

i hope these thoughts are helpful. i don't always have time to respond so i try to be as astute as possible.

hey, thanks for the welcome...
what am i all about? hmm... well let's see...
i was born in chicago, raised in the city streets, my mama gave me the basic facts of life..
no, i'm just teasing. i was born (yay!) in denver, grew up in the suburbs, a place which fosters a deep feeling of disillusionment with our modern concept of the built environment and the culture that produces it/it produces... although maybe that was just teenage angst.. anyway i went to art school at the local commercial artist factory: colorado institute of art got a degree in graphic design, worked as a graphic designer for a couple of years, decided i had enough and somehow wound up working with a crazy crew of design/build public artists known as artscapes, where i met casey and made stuff.. four years later, i'm still here trying to do my small part to make our built environment beautiful and full of life. as long as i can keep growing and learning and making things with my own two hands, i think i'll be here for a pretty long time...
so that's a brief description of some things that have happened. i doubt that it's what i'm all about, but it's an introduction.. so it's nice to meet you.
as an artist/designer/human being, i'm extremely interested in the ideas that you've been blogging around... let's figure out how to make our human endevours fit properly into the life cycle of the universe and all be happy!
honestly i'm not sure how or if i fit in to your plans, i've only read a bit of your blogs, and chatted briefly with casey, so i've got more reading to do.. i'd like to get to know you guys and what your plans are... and offer help in whatever way seems appropriate... or something like that.

If anyone is in New York City on July 24, come to the launch of PRAXIS issue 5, "Architecture After Capitalism". In regards to issues of sustainability, when designing the cover of PRAXIS 5, Architecture after Capitalism, I appropriated the by-products of capitalism - waste - from the printing industry. A typical mid-sided printing press runs thousands of test sheets to calibrate color, finish and registration every day. Frequently a single piece of test paper is printed several times with different imprints before being discarded. In April 2003, the same month the PRAXIS was printed, our printer, Garrity Printing, produced a wide range of jobs including: advertising for Harrah's Casino, brochures for Tulane Engineering School, and handboooks for the US Congress. We asked the printer for a palate of their waste for the cover of PRAXIS. Of the 5,548 usable sheets of paper, 4000 have become Praxis covers. The remaining 1,548 will become waste in our own process. The paper that has become our cover had been used for over 17 different jobs, and overprinted to create several different combinations. I have documented the 14 most common progeny of this process above. Collect all 4000! VISIT:

hello everybody...
I'm a brand new addition to the brucenshpringenshtien and the E10 street band...
I work with casey at artscapes..
I had an idea about why some of the invited can't blog on.
When you follow the link on the invite, it appears that you should input your desired name and password, but that's not the case, that's only for if you're already an established blogger on some other blog...
you have to keep scrolling down and click where it says something like "not a blogger? click here to create your account"
but it's deceptive, at least on my screen you don't see that part of the page unless you make an effort to scroll down...
anyway, casey said he'll reinvite everyone and include that info...
i look forward to rockin' the block wit'yall'
